my love

The keeper of my heart she is
though only days ago I saw her
I miss her as the desert misses the rain
my love for her is like the sea
constant, unyielding, and everlasting
her skin as smooth as woven silk
her hair as soft as the downy feathers of an owl
I lose myself in her eyes
when apart, my heart is lonely
lonely as the solitary wolf
howling to the moon, begging for companionship
I suffer when I cannot hold her
my soul feels as if it has been chained
chained to the ground and locked in, shut away from the rest of the world
but my love has given my soul wings
so it must fly as the falcon, master of the heavens
but chained it is, bound and held
no hope it seems of soaring through the open sky
until she comes to me again and removes the lock
her arms wrap around me tight and her love for me melts my chains
as the snow melts on the high volcano while it stirs from its dormancy
and as I hold her and she holds me,
my wings unfurl like a sail caught by a gust
and so we fly, higher than the lame heights of earth
our spirits as one, we look to gravity and laugh at its weakness
and then we rise to look down upon the earth and moon
as the sun does during the day, and as the stars do at night
I look down upon the beauty of it, and then I look at her
my gaze is caught as the fox in the trap
for she is more fair than any beautiful sight
she is my girl, my friend, my love, my life.
